GENERAL
Brief History of North Poblacion
Once upon a time the name barangay was originally referred to the sailboats which brought migrants from other countries. This countries had close ties with the Philippines. During pre-historic trade and cultural exchange emigration from one place to the other is rampant in the island.
Our barangay was not yet formed on that early age because the place was located on the heart of the town which was known as Cano-an. Cano-an was rightfully interpreted in the Visayan word “ Can-anan “ meaning an eating place. The place was noted for rich corn products so that people from nearby islands used to come either to buy or help in the harvest season.
Inhabitants grew bigger until time that the name Cano-an was changed to Larena in honor of the late Demetrio Larena who served as Governor in the province of Siquijor. Then later, the creation of barrios in the province were enacted.
The Poblacion was divided into two barrios and North bounded in the north by Barangay Helen, bounded in the east by Barangay Bontod and bounded in the west by the seashores and with an area of 27.2475 hectares.
